Interview on IndianaProud.com recorded in the Fall of 2011 on libertarianism, The Libertarian Party, and the re-activation of the Washington County Affiliate of the Libertarian party. Some things have changed since the interview. Rhonda Greene, the interviewer, joined the LPWC (Libertarian party of Washington County). The LPWC was re-activated in February 2012. She and I are now the LP candidates for County Commissioner. Gary Johnson has switched from the GOP to the LP to be our candidate for President of the US.

David Norton BIO

I was born in Scottsburg Indiana in 1957, and have been a resident of Washington County for almost all of my life since then. I grew up on my parent’s farm near Little York, in Gibson Township. I attended school in Little York through 4th grade, and then Salem Community Schools until I graduated in 1975.

I received a B.A. in Mathematics from Indiana University Southeast in 1979. I received an M.S. in Statistics from the University of Kentucky in 1982, and an M.S. in Industrial Engineering and Management Science from Northwestern in 1999.

I have worked on the family farm; as a truck driver; as a machinist and part-owner of a machine shop with my brothers; as an SPC Specialist at the Salem plant, and then Industrial Engineer at the Borden plant for Kimball Office Furniture. I now work part-time for Archer Consultation Services.

I have been a Republican who has leaned libertarian and frequently voted for Libertarian Party candidates, for my entire adult life, until recently. The explosion in the Federal Debt, the Bank Bailouts, the endless wars, the abuses of our civil liberties, and the ideals of the Tea Party movement moved me further towards libertarianism from 2006 until the present. At the state level, I was disappointed by GOP support of the elimination of Township Government.

At the local level I was frustrated by the GOP push for County-wide Comprehensive Zoning, which had been stopped several times before. At every level of government, the GOP proved itself NOT to be the small government party they claimed to be. I realized I could only work for Freedom and smaller government through the Libertarian Party.

I joined the Libertarian Party, worked with the Libertarian Party of Indiana and Rhonda Greene to re-activate the Libertarian Party of Washington County. I’m currently the LPWC Chairman, and the LP candidate for District 1 County Commissioner.
